24 New Projects Made with Shot Cottons and Striped Fabrics

Kaffe Fassett And Liza Prior Lucy

In Kaffe Fassett Quilts Shots and Stripes, quilt master Kaffe Fassett and coauthor Liza Prior Lucy present 24 projects—small and large, beginner and advanced—made with iridescent solid-colored cotton fabrics (called shot cottons) and woven striped cotton fabrics, all photographed in and around his weekend home on England’s southern coast. Inspired by worldwide travels and a plethora of ethnic textiles, including Amish quilts in America, Japanese indigo patched work clothes, and African weavings, the projects featured include full-size bed quilts as well as smaller pieces that can be completed more quickly, such as throws, wall hangings, table runners, and pillows. With Shots and Stripes, Fassett answers the current call for quilts that make bold graphic statements but are not necessarily as time-consuming as some of the work for which he has been previously celebrated.

Praise for Kaffe Fassett Quilts Shots and Stripes:

“Kaffe Fassett is a superstar in the world of textiles.” —Craft Gossip

“As with all of Kaffe’s books—whether quilting or knitting or needlework—the photos and lay-out are lavish. It is a treat for the senses.” —Getting Stitched on the Farm

“Kaffe & Liza did it again! It's amazing to have another pattern book so soon, following . . . Kaffe’s fascinating memoir, Dreaming in Color. Do you really need yet another Kaffe book in your library of quilt books? Why, yes, you do.” —Meg Cox

About the author

He is the author of 16 books, which have sold over a million copies worldwide, including STC Craft’s Kaffe Fassett’s Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts and his biography, Kaffe Fassett: Dreaming in Color. Photographed in the small rural village in Bulgaria, its natural, unspoiled beauty makes the perfect backdrop for this scintillating collection of favourite quilts by Kaffe and his designers, recreated in the new Rowan fabrics. Kaffe and his team of designers explain how they have gone about the task of recreating them, in some cases changing the colour palette completely.

The new fabrics inspired him to look again at some of his original favourite designs. For example, the new woven striped fabrics from India and Kaffe's own printed Marquee Stripes made it a must to create two new version Chevron quilt (from Quilt Road), each very different. One is in earthy woven stripes, the other in sizzling Marquee stripes, illustrating how colour can change the mood of a
quilt.

Add to the mix of new fabrics Philip Jacob's sublime florals and Brandon Mably's quirky designs, plus new colourways of firm favourites and shot cottons, and quilt designers are spoilt for choice.

The quilt instructions in this book are simple and clear: a sumptuous flat shot photo of the finished project, an ingredients list of the materials needed full written instructions, with useful tips, and illustrated with coloured diagrams, and all the templates.rated colour in deep earthy tones. In the Designer Profile, Kaffe explains how he creates his quilts, a fascinating insight into a genius at work.

An instructional book for quilters and other crafters for using die cutting systems.

Do you think die cutting wastes too much fabric? Have you ever die cut a square only to find that it came up short? How can you get perfect cuts every time, no matter what system you use or material you are cutting? Learn the tips and techniques you need to make your own die cutting a success.

Written for the quilters and sewists who use die-cutting systems, and those who might like to try, this book combines the best information and expertise from leaders in the industry to improve the speed and accuracy of quilt making.

The book opens with a chapter discussing all the major fabric die-cutting systems, and then continues with chapters about dies, consumable materials, and HOW to die-cut and prepare your fabric.

Several companies produce die-cutting systems for the quilting and crafting markets; two of the biggest names are Sizzix® and AccuQuilt®. Because of the variety of machines and dies, consumers are often overwhelmed by the choices and have trouble determining which system would be best for them. “A lot of quilters don’t realize that some of these systems are interchangeable.

This 256-page book lives up to its name in a big way, and is packed with tips, extensive Q & A sections, and detailed explanations to help guide quilters through some of their most pressing issues like: what kind of die cutter is best for them; what dies to purchase, and how to make the most of them; how to use dies from one manufacturer in a different machine; techniques to reduce fabric waste during die cutting; and ways to store and maintain their equipment.
