Box Making or the art of Cartonnage We are delighted to present a range of Cartonnage kits. With a few basic tools, some glue and a fabric of you choice you can create a beautiful and practical box or ringbinder. All kits come with instructions, precut board, binding tape and other items appropriate to the kit.
The art of making decorative boxes from cardboard was started around 1844 in Valréas in the Vaucluse by Ferdinand Revoul. He came up with the idea of making cardboard boxes to store silk worm eggs for transporation. His success led other businesses such as jewellers and perfumers to display their products in decorative boxes and the rest, as they say, is history! |

Remove the lid and the box opens like a flower to reveal storage for a host of sewing notions. Notions are held in place by ribbon and there is a small box in the centre to store a thimble.

This Bookbinding Glue is recommended for our Box Making Kits. There are plenty of craft glues on the market, but are they right for boxmaking? If the glue is too runny it will seep through the fabric and ruin the appearance. Too tacky and you will end up with stringy bits around the seams and corners. We have found this bookbinding glue to be perfect for the job. Spread it thinly onto the card and smooth over the fabric for a strong and quick-drying result. The 250 gram tub will complete about five projects.
