The new fabrics inspired him to look again at some of his original favourite designs. For example, the new woven striped fabrics from India and Kaffe's own printed Marquee Stripes made it a must to create two new version Chevron quilt (from Quilt Road), each very different. One is in earthy woven stripes, the other in sizzling Marquee stripes, illustrating how colour can change the mood of a
quilt.

Add to the mix of new fabrics Philip Jacob's sublime florals and Brandon Mably's quirky designs, plus new colourways of firm favourites and shot cottons, and quilt designers are spoilt for choice.

Twenty Designs from Rowan for Patchwork and Quilting

This, the 13th in the series of Kaffe Fassetts highly successful patchwork and quilting books from Rowan, is photographed by Debbie Patterson at the Skansen Museum in Stockholm, the oldest open-air museum in the world, where different styles of old Swedish houses built of richly painted wood make a great backdrop for this collection of 20 new quilts by Kaffe and his chosen designers. Kaffes quilt designs make the most of the new fabric in the collection. He designs fabric often knowing how he would like to use it and how it will look cut up. He uses Serape, an exciting new striped fabric to great effect combined with shot cottons, creating simple graphic quilts where the colours sing out. Kaffe Fassett " This quilt is made using just 3 patch shapes, Large Square, Small Square and Rectangle, all are cut to size and no templates are provided for these very simple shapes. the quilt is pieced in alternating rows with sashing rectangles interspacing the large squares for one row and sashing rectangles interspacing the small squares which form corner posts for the alternate row."
