Creative Textiles Classes

Creative Textiles

Creative Textiles

You may already have met Angela at either Festival of Quilts, NEC or Quilts UK, Malvern, where she has demonstrated the Westalee quilting foot and rulers for us. She loves the product and is an enthusiastic user and tutor.

Angela came to textiles several years ago from an art & design background, initially specialising in free-motion embroidery before becoming hooked on quilting too. She now straddles both genres and is as happy stitching traditional hexagons or perfecting complex piecing as she is painting or dying her own cloth or layering appliquéd fabrics with free-motion embroidery on an art quilt.

She says I believe in a balance of creative freedom and expression with good design principles and structure. The thing I love most about Westalee Ruler work is that it enables you to create beautifully shaped quilt patterns with perfect symmetry. Free-motion embroidery for example is much freer than free-motion quilting. It's expressive and unique to you – just like your handwriting or a quick doodle. However, free-motion quilting patterns are more prescribed and expected to be perfectly symmetrical and wobble-free! We all know it take years of daily practise to perfect designs such as feathers or wreaths and I take my hat off to those who have achieved this but we don't all have the time, or inclination, to perfect this one component of quilting. I've met many enthusiastic and very proficient patchworkers who'd just like to be able to complete their quilts or other patchwork projects to a professional finish. Westalee ruler work enables you to do just that, to quilt like a pro with creative flare and freedom, on a domestic machine too!
