Katja Marek created this quilt based on designs drawn from The New Hexagon Perpetual Calendar. It is available as a 12 month Block-of the-Month programme. The finished quilt is 91" x 94 1/2"
The quilt is created using the English Paper Piecing method, a traditional handpiecing technique that is fun, easy and portable.
A copy of The New Hexagon Perpetual Calendar is required in order to complete the quilt
Approximately 11-1/4 yards total of scrappy background grey fabrics is required for the pieced background and binding. The background of the quilt is made up of scrappy grey equilateral triangles, which are cut from a 9 3/4strip and machine pieced.
Katja suggests the use of an equilateral triangle ruler or template that has a complete tip at the corners (as opposed to those templates that have the trimmed corners).
For the EPP (English Paper Piecing) fabrics, each month you will need 6 pieces each 6 x ½ the width of the fabric.
Katja used the following: the first 6 months rainbow colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple); the second 6 months 2 groups of 3 fabrics combining adjacent rainbow colours (red/orange, orange/yellow, yellow/green, green/blue, blue/purple, purple/red).
The programme runs for 12 months and is now open for subscriptions
