Polyester wadding is the main man-made wadding that is used and is derived from polyethylene, a non-renewable source but recycled polyster waddings are available.
While polyester is not breathable like many nautral fibres it is an excellent choice if you are looking for a thick, but very lightweight quilt wadding. It comes in the widest rance of lofts and is sometimes blended with cotton to offer the desirable qualities of both fibres.
Polyester wadding has the advantage of being non-allergenic so is a good choice for anyone who is allergic to natural fibres. It is durable and retains its shape well with minimal shrinkage.
Polyester waddings made from recycled plastic bottles are available.
