Westalee Quilting Ruler Foot Starter Set
Why a ½?
The Westalee Ruler Foot is exactly ½
in diameter. This means that when you move the foot around a template your machine will always stitch a consistent ¼ away from the edge of the template which will help when you plan and position your designs.
Purchasing the Ruler Foot
Every foot is packaged with a 12" Arc Template whether it is Low, High, Medium or Special. The package also includes an adjustment guide and Stable Tape, a strip of grip tape that helps stop the template slipping.
Template Thickness
Each Westalee template comes in two thickness, 3mm and 4.5mm. Once you have established which Ruler Foot you require any future templates you purchase must be of the correct thickness.
If your machine requires a Low (LS) or Medium (MS) shank Ruler foot you must always buy low Shank templates.
If your machine requires a High (HS) or High Shank Special (HSS) you must always buy High Shank templates.
Choosing The Right Westalee Ruler Foot
Leonie West, the Australian designer of Westalee products set out with the aim of making these rulers accessible to as many domestic machine users as possible. To use the rulers correctly you need a true ½ round foot.
It is important to purchase the correct shank fitting for your machine.
To determine your shank size all you need to do is lower your foot and then measure the height of the centre of the hole for the screw from the needle plate as shown here.
Some machines require a different shank fitting. If your machine is listed here you must buy the correct foot.
Medium Shank (MS) Ruler Foot:
Bernina 7 Series and 8 Series machines (these benefit from this foot as it allows the foot to sit lower to the plate and helps remove the hop.
