Quilt Batting
Quilt batting is the soft, thick layer of material sandwiched between the quilt top and the quilt backing. It provides warmth, loft (thickness), and structure to the quilt. Batting comes in various materials, such as:
- Cotton – Breathable and soft, often with a natural feel.
- Polyester – Lightweight, retains shape well, and resists shrinking.
- Wool – Warm and lofty, great for colder climates.
- Bamboo – Soft, eco-friendly, and breathable.
- Blends (e.g., Cotton-Poly) – A mix of fibers to balance softness, durability, and warmth.
It also comes in different thicknesses (lofts) and can be needle-punched for durability or fusible for easy layering.
Quilt batting is the American term, in the UK we use wadding instead of batting. You can see our complete selection of quilt waddings here.
